BCCDA Journal Authorship Agreement.
Currently BCCDA offers 13 Journals which can be purchased in either a PDF or printed format. We wish to expand on this endeavour and are interested in hearing from anyone who might wish to become involved in the journal process, either as an editor, publisher or writer. The process of journal development generally adheres to the following outline:
- A request for interest to submit a new journal
- Interested parties would then submint an abstract and state when they intend to submit their completed journal
- The editorial committee would review the completed journal for content clarity, grammar and writing style
- A volunteer would do the necessary changes and formatting
- The journal would then be sent back to the editor for review and editorial comments
- The editorial committee would review the revisions and send a final copy to the editor for last review
- The journal would then be ready for publication
If you are interested in contributing please contact us by e-mail at info@bccda.org or by phone at 604-684-3638
The Publication Committee consists of the following members...
Jayne Barron: I bring over 15 years experience in the career development field as a counsellor/coach/mentor, people developer, and trusted advisor. Nearly 10 years of this time was also as a business owner with additional skills in management, sales & marketing, and human resources. As owner of a training and development company in the Fraser Valley that offered both full-time career-related programs and corporate training to intact groups, there was lots of opportunity to write speeches and presentations, develop curriculum and student handbooks (some technical) and compose copy for the company's website and other marketing materials. For this committee, my 'editing eye' will focus on flow and consistency as I watch for the following: spelling and grammar, punctuation and capitalization, wordiness, awkwardness, redundancy and word, phrase and sentence flow. My approach to each journal will be to provide suggestions or queries and to share a 'reader's perspective' of the document. I will not force an opinion and the writer will always have the final say.
Tracey Knihnitski: I have over ten years experience as a local and international educator providing client services for government, post-secondary institutions and non-profit organizations. My extensive background includes adult education, facilitation, curriculum development and marketing. My current roles are as an Employment Consultant and Team Lead with the Experience For Hire program at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Employment Services in New Westminster. Prior to this, I taught ESL in South Korea for three years and was actively involved with the Gwangju International Center as a reporter, writer and article content editor and managment advisor for the Gwangju News. Volunteering for the BCCDA Journal Committee has given me the opportunity to get back on the horse and write again and it has provided me with a forum to collaborate with like-minded colleagues who strive to educate and be educated for and by those in the industry we serve.
Sylvia Metz:
Jackline Ochieng: I believe in the adage "knowledge not shared is useless". Driven by the need to ensure that knowledge is given its worth, I bring my leadership to this committee to support knowledge sharing among professionals. Through this capacity building initiative, I hope that we will become knowledgeable practitioners delivering quality services that stand the test of peer review. I have never stopped writing or editing a variety of documents, ranging from academic theses, essays, funding proposals, research and job search documents since I came to Canada in 2003 to pursue my Masters in Arts, Sociology at UBC. I am very much humbled to by utilizing my skills in the committee. Currently managing an employment resource centre at S.U.C.C.E.S.S., I am honoured to be part of the Career Development field in BC.
