Enhance your professional development options without spending time and money traveling. BCCDA has formed a partnership with Careerwell to provide education and training through live and recorded "tele-interviews" with career industry experts and leaders. BCCDA members have the opportunity to participate in Careerwell telephone interviews (accessed via the Internet) 2-4 times per month, with access to archived interviews.The interviews are free for BCCDA members, except for the minimal cost you pay your long-distance provider as you phone in to the sessions (we recommend Skype as a very low cost alternative). Each month we will email you the list of upcoming speakers and you can go directly to the Careerwell site to register for the sessions that interest you, choosing BCCDA from the list of subscribing organizations.

The BC Government has announced the results of the RFP process for the new Employment Program of BC to be implemented in April 2012, and have issued a successful proponents list, announcement/press release, Q&A/FAQ, and a Fact Sheet. ELMS, the department of Employment and Labour Market Services within the Ministry of Social Development, is leading the transformation of BC's employment programs and services, bringing all employment programming under one umbrella program to be run through 73 contracts establishing 'one-stop' Employment Service Centres (ESCs) across the province. Currently there are over 300 contracts directly funded and coordinated by a wide variety of private, non-profit, and educational organizations and other community based training organizations across the province. These organizations worked to form partnerships in order to be able to meet the service and financial capacity required to deliver the new program and bid on the 73 contracts.
The BCCDA has taken a proactive role throughout the ELMS consultation and RFP period, holding information sessions and 'decoding transformation' workshops across the province. We gathered member feedback and conveyed the concerns to the government at their stakeholder meetings and through BC Bid. The association also made a formal submission to ELMS through BC Bid to clarify the issues specific to career practitioners in BC. The letter can be found above. As well the BCCDA had joined with other provincial umbrella groups and associations to discuss the ramifications of the new program and funding model and to jointly convey our concerns over the new model to the BC Government.
