Opportunities for entry-level through to advanced training and ongoing professional development are essential to the career practitioner community. BC's career practitioners have an incredible array of courses available to them - from entry level to advanced training; from certificates to graduate degrees. Below, we have compiled lists (or provided external links) that detail various educational and professional development opportunities. There is likely to be overlap within each of these lists and/or links but it is also worth exploring all of them to ensure you don't miss anything!
BCCDA has coordinated training and professional networking events for career practitioners for over two decades. BCCDA's training events, on timely topics, are scheduled monthly throughout the Lower Mainland and, on demand on Vancouver Island, in the Fraser Valley, and in the Interior region of BC. These training days provide an ongoing arena for the exchange of information relevant to our sector.

Job Club Leadership Training (JCLT) is offered by Douglas College, Faculty of Child, Family and Community Studies, Continuing Education, in partnership with BCCDA. Job Club Leaders help clients find a suitable job within the shortest feasible time period. Become JCLT certified and learn how to facilitate the Azrin model of demonstration, practice feedback and positive reinforcement.
Upon successful completion of JCLT participants will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead a Job Club. In this course group facilitating and awareness, communication skills, professional attitude and the application of the Job Club behavioural model are evaluated through videotaped lesson presentation, written assignments, performance and interaction. JCLT is an intense 35hrs (one week). JCLT can also be offered at your work site or location of your choice anywhere in North America.

The Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling (CERIC) has compiled a list of the various programs throughout Canada which provide training related to the field of Career Counselling and Career Development. The directory provides an overview of the course, entry requirements, delivery mode, practicum requirements, and document obtained upon successful completion of the program. The Directory also includes website links and contact information for the programs.
BC's Workinfonet has also inventoried training services, in both the public and private sectors, that are relevant to the career development sector.
This site provides information regarding career development educational programs offered internationally. You can search for programs offered by nation or language. The fabulous Food for Thought series of papers are also available at the CRC.
